Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was on Friday issued a legal notice by an NGO for smoking in public during the two recent events - the Twenty20 cricket match in Mumbai and a media summit in Delhi. The NGO, National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) issued legal notice to the film actor for smoking in public during the two recent events - the Twenty20 cricket match in Mumbai and a media event in Delhi. NOTE, an anti-tobacco NGO, which is already into a legal battle with megastar Amitabh Bachchan over his movie posters showing him smoking cigar, issued legal notice through its lawyer. The NGO has threatened to sue Khan for promoting smoking in public places, which is banned under the Anti-Tobacco Act. The notice to Khan has been issued under Sections 4 and 5 (3) of cigarette and other tobacco products (prohibition of advertisements and regulation of trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution) Act, 2003. "Images of Shah Rukh Khan inhaling smoke were shown on Doordarshan during its telecast of the Twenty20 cricket match in Mumbai on October 20. The national television channel's telecast of such outrageous images is another act worth condemnation," NOTE general secretary Dr Shekhar Salkar said. Prior to this incident, Khan was shown sitting on the dais with a lighted cigarette in his hand during a media event in Delhi on October 12 and 13, NOTE said. These acts show the much-acclaimed actor and youth icon in a very poor light, the NGO mentioned. A superstar, imitated and adored by millions cannot lend a helping hand to promote smoking, Salkar added.

Months have passed but no script. Sriram was busy finishing Johnny Gaddar and then sorting his projects out. Continues the source, "Though
Ash has heard Sriram's idea and loves it, she has always insisted on a script from the start of her career. Remember how years ago Indra
Kumar got pissed off with her because she had asked for a script before saying yes? Ash remains unchanged in her professionalism. Whether
it's a completely professional arrangement with Indra Kumar or a friendly producer like Rohan Sippy, she wants the script."
Pooh poohing stories of how she was distracted and distracting on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar the source says, "If anything Ash is today even
more professional than she used to be before marriage. Ash wouldn't even speak to her husband on the phone while shooting." Sriram's film is

Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has appealed to Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan to stop smoking in movies as millions of youngsters emulate them and imbibe the bad habit."I have already made appeals to Shah Rukh Khan," Ramadoss said in Karan Thapar's "Devil's Advocate" programme being aired on a news channel."But I would be happy to do it again and say, 'Please don't smoke in your movies, Mr. Shah Rukh Khan'. I would like to make an appeal to Mr. Shah Rukh Khan and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and all the other personalities."Fourteen-year-olds are taking to tobacco. India should be very, very concerned about the alarming rise of incidence of tobacco (use) amongst young people," the minister emphasised.Criticising movies with smoking scenes, the minister said: "The movies are most responsible (for encouraging smoking). When I said movies should not have smoking scenes, we have statistics which show that 52 percent of children have their first puff of a cigarette because of movie celebrities."When asked about Shah Rukh smoking during a recent cricket match, Ramadoss said the actor should not have done it.

Actor Aamir Khan is all set with his directorial debut Taare Zameen Par which releases on December 21.

CNN-IBN’s Anuradha SenGupta gets chatty with the actor, talking about the change in his image from a ‘good-looking’ actor to an intellectual one, who surely, ought to be taken seriously.

Anuradha SenGupta: With Taare Zameen Par, you turn director. All these years we have heard accusations and charges saying Aamir interferes and second-guesses his directors, and if this is not your planned directorial debut, then how petrified are you?

Aamir Khan: Petrified in what sense? Are you talking about the release of the film?

Anuradha SenGupta: You must know that there are a lot of eyes on this film, not just the ticket buying public, but people you worked in the past with, people who may have things to say because this is finally when you come out of the actor who could direct and become the director.

Aamir Khan: Well, I do know that, but I am not making films for these reasons, so these things don’t bother me. I am making a film in which I believe in, and my concern is that have I been able to bring on to celluloid what was on paper. When I look at the film now, I feel I have managed to do that, so I am really happy with it. If I have any concern, it is that how my audience reacts to the film.

Anuradha SenGupta: We are talking as the first phase of Gujarat elections starts. Are you watching closely? Are you interested, because we know what happened with Fanaa because you supported the Narmada Bachao Aandolan. Are you anticipating trouble with Taare Zameen Par?

Aamir Khan: I have no idea and I have not been following the news because I have been very involved in the post-production of my film. So I really have not had the bandwidth to keep in touch with what’s happening around the country at this point of time.

Anuradha SenGupta: Is the film releasing in Gujarat? Do you know?

Aamir Khan: As far as I know, it's releasing.

Anuradha SenGupta: So you are not expecting any trouble this time?

Aamir Khan: No, I hope not.

Anuradha SenGupta: Tell me, after the response of this film, are you going to become like Woody Allen, directing yourself a lot?

Aamir Khan: I haven’t thought about that. I mean, no. On the face of it, I’d like to say that I would like to direct and I don’t want to act in the film I am directing. That’s something that I always felt. In this case I did not have a choice. But frankly, I am not comfortable acting and directing in the same film.

Anuradha SenGupta: I was wondering, you do a shot and you go running and play it back and you see it?

Aamir Khan: No, I don’t do that. I pretty much go with my instincts. So when I am giving a shot, my instincts tell me whether it is right or wrong and when I have finished with the takes and I think that I have got it, then I go and check once. Fortunately, as an actor, I never depend on the monitor. In my entire career, I have never looked at the monitor.

Anuradha SenGupta: And did you depend on the director?

Aamir Khan: Of course I do. I have the ability or I would say, I have retained the ability to keep my instinct alive, on how well the shot has gone or how well we have got the moment without having to check the monitor.

Mithunda walked in first, followed by the rest of the cast. But there was one person who was yet to make a grand entry, King Khan — he was supposed to unveil the music of the film.
Mithun propped up the bar, chatting with all, drink in hand, smiling for the shutterbugs and trying to pass his time. It was nearing 11 pm when someone announced that Shah Rukh Khan was about to make an entry.
Mithun had by then moved to the first floor of the venue. Going to the balcony, he started bellowing, “Shah Rukh, Shah Rukh, kahan hain tu, yaar?” Moments later, SRK entered escorted by bodyguards. Again, Mithun called out the Bollywood Badshah’s name, this time louder than before to everyone’s surprise. Shah Rukh, unaware of the great presence above him, waved out the way he does to hysterical fans.
“He didn’t see me!” exclaimed Mithun, throwing his hands up in the air. But when SRK stepped out of the lift, the first thing he said was “ Da ,” on seeing Mithun.
The original Disco Dancer forgot his long wait and held open his arms to hug the Dard-e-Disco star. “I was calling out and you waved to me as if I was one of your fans,” complained Mithun. “Oh, was it you Da? I’m so sorry, I really thought it was just another fan calling out my name,” apologised the six-pack Khan. "We are just puppets in the hands of the media, especially when it comes to our personal lives. The media decides when our (John-Bipasha) relationship starts going through a rough patch and when it mends," Bipasha told IANS.
Tinsel town has been abuzz with rumours of their long-time relationship souring and later their reunion.
"In this industry it happens. However, for me it is a great pride being myself. I will never conduct myself in a way that I have to be ashamed of, later," she maintained.
"I also understand the pressures the media works under. The world is extremely competitive. You have to sell news, if one channel has it the other wants it too."
The dusky beauty was in the capital on Wednesday evening to launch her friend and favourite designer Rocky S' couture line at fashion store Aza.
Sporting a sunset orange sari teamed with a golden embroidered blouse, she left her hair in trademark style -- long and straight -- "specially for Rocky's show".
Asked how much time she spends on shopping, she said: "Now I don't get much time to shop. Life has become a little luxurious now with more help at home, as the work has increased. How does it feel to be working with Ranbir and Sonam?

For me working with Ranbir and Sonam is different because I’ve known them from before. I’ve seen both Sonam and Ranbir literally groom before me while they were assisting Sanjay on the making of Black .

Do you think they’ll make an impact on Bollywood?

I think both of them are going to create a stir. If I have to say something about Ranbir – he’s going to have a great female following. Ranbir has a unique, special nice style of dance. Sonam looks so beautiful and I think that she’s got Anil and Sunita’s good qualities. She’s going to have a tremendous male following. Both of them are going to be the biggest stars in Indian cinema.

This isn’t the first time you’ve interacted with the two

Yes, the difference is that while I did Black, Ranbir and Sonam were behind the camera and now they’re with makeup and costumes. As individuals they were the same since then. They were nervous while facing the camera and they were nervous even in front of me. So I would joke around them and try making them at ease. But because they have such a great guide – in the form of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, they don’t need anything else.

Do you think you and Salman might overshadow the newcomers?

No ways.Our presence in the film is because Sanjay wanted us and we love Sanjay. I think me and Salman are going to get overshadowed in the film.

You and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have worked before...

For me Sanjay will always be special. He’s my friend and the relationship we have while working and the rapport we’ve created while working together continues. I hope we work more in the future

You went through some legal trauma in 2006 when a furniture dealer accused you of not paying her dues?

It’s always been important for me to fight for the truth. If a media crazy person attacks me I’ll fight back even more strongly.No matter what film I’ve made so far, I’ve never got involved in any monetary transactions. For Black, it was Applause Entertainment who were my financial partners while I handled the creativity.

Any monetary grievance should have been addressed to Applause. So why were you hounded?

Because the lady in question needed access to the media.. and what better medium of media recognition than a well-known director? So far I’ve kept mum and trusted in our judicial system. In fact I want to thank this lady for making me stronger.

How do you feel about 2006?

Last year started for me with all the awards for Black. All the hard work came to fruition. Awards are important because they endorse your hard work. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re better than the other nominations. But they make me feel very good.

And three of my films Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Black won lots of awards.. Then I went through another level of excitement while recording the songs of Sawariya.

You think Sawariya too will make a grand sweep at the awards?

(Laughs) I would love it if it if does. But the intention is never to make films for awards. You make the film you want to.

I’ve had a glimpse at Saawariya. It looks completely different from your other films.
I think it takes me quite a long time to decide the atmosphere and khushboo of a film. That process takes me more than a year. And I need to take a different path every day. The intention isn’t to make money, but to do what comes naturally to me.

What motivated Sawariya?

The concept is unlike anything I’ve done so far. I wanted to move from the deep intensity of Black to the absolute joie de vivre of Sawariya. After Black I wanted to see a flower bloom and the sun shine. Of course it’s an intense love story. But the sparkle of youthful love is so
invigorating. That’s what I wanted to experience.As I make Sawariya I feel very alive. I don’t want to make a ‘popcorn khao, ghar jao’ film. With Sawariya I feel all my senses tingling again.

But the presence of two high-profile star children could colour your film’s profile during marketing.

If I’m making a film about young love I can’t cast veterans. It had to be newcomers. And why not Ranbir and Sonam?

They’re astonishing discoveries. I didn’t make Sawariya to launch Ranbir and Sonam. But yes, it does them give them a chance to prove their worth. Their freshness adds a lot to the love story. They do come from important film families.

FOUR vela friends are afflicted by the get-rich-quick virus and find their fortunes taking a turn after they accidentally pounce upon an accident victim (Prem Chopra) who tells them about a hidden treasure in Goa, before he literally kicks the bucket. The losers begin their winners-take-all journey to the promised land, but find umpteen obstacles in their way: a sleepwalking cop (Sanjay Dutt), a hyper Parsi bawa (Asrani) and a me-myself daku. It’s a banana bunch that finally ends up in Goa, chasing a dream that takes them through sundry silly twists and turns that find you grinning as you jump onto this jolly ride. Don’t go looking for too much sense and you might just enjoy this celebration of nonsense from the director who has given you some cinema ‘masti’ with films like Dil, Ishq and Masti. The highpoint of the film isn’t the script which is a foregone tale. Rather, it is the chemistry between the bunch of chokras, led by Arshad Warsi and his nerdish brother, Jaaved Jaffrey who wields the dungaree with aplomb. Also, the boys whip up such a frenzy of mad capers that you hardly miss the heroines who are notable by their absence. Yes, this is Bollywood’s maiden attempt to completely dispense with the maidens. Go have fun in this all boys affair, even though Sanjay Dutt seems to be sleepwalking through his role, the first after his stint at Yerawada prison.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan walked free from a Jodhpur jail Friday after spending a week behind bars and returned to Mumbai to an enthusiastic welcome from hundreds of delighted fans.
Salman was granted bail by the Rajasthan High Court on a bond of Rs.100,000 and two sureties of Rs.50,000 each. He was sent to jail Saturday for hunting an endangered chinkara deer nine years ago.
Wearing a white shirt, jeans and a grey cap and carrying a bag, the macho star walked out of jail and hugged his bodyguard as the waiting crowd clapped and shouted slogans in his support.
Hundreds of fans had crowded around the jail and also the hotel where his family was staying. They were also waiting at the airport to see him and police had a tough time controlling them.

Prisoner No.343 of Jodhpur central jail, Bollywood star Salman Khan, was afforded some cause to cheer Sunday when three of his near and dear ones were allowed to visit him and spend over 20 minutes with him.
The celebrity prisoner, hero of countless films and a style icon who has been sentenced to five years in prison for hunting an endangered deer nine years ago in Rajasthan, surrendered himself to Rajasthan Police Saturday following an arrest warrant.
Jail authorities had given special permission to Salman's brother Arbaz Khan, his sister Alvira and model-turned-actor and close friend Katrina Kaif to meet Salman between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Arbaz, Alvira and Katrina along with other family members and friends came from Mumbai to Jodhpur early in the afternoon, drawing crowds of fans and onlookers at the airport.
Along with Alvira, Katrina dressed in a white kurta and jeans and Arbaz in a pink T-shirt and trousers spent over 20 minutes with Salman in the jail.
'Salman was dressed in white khadi clothes of the jail and he looked fine as he met the three of them together,' a source in the jail told IANS.

With Bollywood star Salman Khan lodged in the city central jail, Jodhpur has suddenly come into the spotlight. But residents here have mixed feelings about the actor serving a five-year jail term for hunting an endangered chinkara deer nine years ago.

While his fans, who have been gathering around the prison here ever since Salman was arrested Saturday, feel he has been booked because of his celebrity status, many are of the opinion that the actor has been rightly punished.
A majority of his sympathisers are girls and the youth who consider him a style icon.
'I think he is suffering because of his celebrity status. The court has acquitted five others in the same case ... why has only he been pronounced guilty?' questioned Anupama Chaudhary, a Class 12 student.
And many Salman fans firmly believe he is innocent. Said Bhanwar Singh, another college student: 'A person like Salman can't do something like this. I have read that he helps lots of people and engages in charity. He could not have done this. All charges against him are fake.'
At the same time, several people felt he had been rightly punished. 'As an actor I love Salman but if you have committed a crime, no matter how big or small you are, you should be punished. Law is above all,' said Ashok Chaudhary.
Salman was arrested at Jodhpur airport Saturday and taken to the central jail. He has been convicted of poaching a chinkara deer at the Ghoda farm near Jodhpur on the night of Sep 28, 1998 while filming Sooraj Barjatya's blockbuster 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.
On Friday, the district and sessions court here had dismissed the actor's plea against the five-year jail term handed down by a lower court.

But several wildlife lovers felt the judgement was a landmark one, which was in favour of animal rights.
'I think this judgement will go a long way and help curb poaching activities,' said Ramkumar Purohit, a resident.
And the happiest are members of the Bishnoi community who are nature worshippers and staunch animal lovers. Deer and antelopes are seen grazing peacefully in Bishnoi dominated areas due to the care and protection offered by the community. They had launched strong protests against Salman for killing chinkaras and black bucks.
'We are very happy with the court's decision. Though it has come after many years but he is finally behind bars and we hope that he is not released,' said R.K. Bishnoi, a college student.

Bollywood star Salman Khan left for Jodhpur on Saturday to surrender before a court that has issued an arrest warrant against him for hunting an endangered chinkara deer nine years ago.Salman told reporters outside his residence that he would catch a flight to the Rajasthan city.A district and sessions court in Jodhpur on Friday dismissed his plea against a five-year jail term handed by a lower court.The Jodhpur police had earlier readied a five-member team to go to Mumbai to arrest the hugely popular actor.In April last year, Salman had filed an appeal in the district and sessions court against the judgement of the chief judicial magistrate's court in Jodhpur that had sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 25,000.The court had found Salman guilty under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Salman spent three nights in Jodhpur Central Jail before the district and sessions court gave him bail.On Friday, district and sessions judge Kamal Raj Singhvi rejected his appeal and upheld the five-year jail term and the fine. The district court also issued an arrest warrant against him.The star of hit films like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" failed to appear for the hearing on Friday, saying he had missed the flight to Jodhpur from Hyderabad where he was shooting. A Jodhpur court rejected an appeal by actor Salman Khan against a five-year prison sentence for a 1998 poaching case on Friday, a verdict that will send the actor to jail. Khan had filed an appeal against a 2006 court ruling which had sentenced him to jail for poaching a chinkara -- an endangered species of gazelle that is protected under wildlife laws -- while shooting a film in Rajasthan.That court also fined him 25,000 rupees. Hunting such animals carries a maximum sentence of seven years.He was also convicted in 2006 for killing protected black buck antelopes in Rajasthan and given a one-year jail sentence.He was granted bail while he appeals that conviction.Khan was not present in the court when the verdict was announced."His hotel room was booked but he couldn't get a flight and was therefore held back," S R Bajwa, one of Khan's lawyers, told the Times Now news channel.It was not immediately known when he would be taken into custody."Salman's Khan's advocate will now have to decide when he surrenders," said Mahipal Bishnoi, a prosecution lawyer, speaking on a local news channel. "I think he might surrender on Monday."Bishnoi said an arrest warrant would be issued.Khan is also facing charges of killing a person sleeping on a pavement in Mumbai while driving drunk in 2002. He has denied being at the wheel.

The film industry heaved a sigh of relief as Sanjay Dutt got a breather. More than Rs 70 crore is riding on three films he is acting in Abbas-Mustan’s Mr Fraud and Kidnap (both for Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision) and Sanjay Gupta’s Alibaug.The anxious film fraternity is relaxed now. It’s good for producers whose films are incomplete, said trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Adarsh said that Rs 80 to Rs 100 crore was riding on Dutt. It’s the result of the prayers of millions. He has been punished enough for his mistake and now let him make his late father, family and nation proud of him, said Subhash Ghai.Dutt’s close friend, Sanjay Gupta, who has worked extensively with the actor, was a happy man. Although it’s an interim relief, justice has prevailed and our faith in the judiciary has been restored.While some in the industry feel that Dutt may soon return to the studios to complete the pending movies, others are doubtful.It depends on how long the interim relief lasts, because it’s going to take quite some time to complete these films. Besides, it would be very improper on part of the producers to ask him for dates considering what he’s been through, said Vidhu Rajkumar Hirani.

Though the actor was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Monday, he spent three nights in jail as documents relating to his release had not reached jail authorities.The release is only temporary and Dutt will go back to jail as soon as he gets a copy of the TADA court order convicting him. His friend Yusuf Nallawalla who was also convicted in the case came out of the jail with him. Sanjay Dutt has reached his Bandra residence in Mumbai.

Sajnay Dutt fans patience is running out as the “Munnabhai” star awaits his release from Yerawada Jail here a day after being granted interim bail. He is now likely to be released Wednesday.Outside the jail, Sanjay’s fans are hoping against hope to get a glimpse of the star. Sandeep Bajaj, an avid fan, says: “I would love to see him. I have come all the way from Nasik to see him,” Bajaj told IANS outside the jail.Meanwhile, in Mumbai Sanjay’s lawyer Farhana Shah is waiting too. “I still haven’t received the papers. It’s impossible that he will be released today.” Inside the jail, Sanjay is busy with the chores of carpentry and caning (of chairs) that he has chosen as part of the six years “rigorous imprisonment” he was handed by a court in the 1993 Mumbai serial bombings. According to Asim Sarode, lawyer and social activists who works at Yerawada Jail, Sanjay Dutt has worked for 16 days and will receive Rs.204 as his allowance.
“He has picked up carpentry very fast,” Sarode said.The Supreme Court Monday granted interim bail to Sanjay, jailed for six years for illegally receiving guns from terrorists involved in the 1993 Mumbai bombings.He is expected to be released after the Supreme Court order is submitted and certified before a Mumbai court and then passed on to jail authorities.
Shah said that Sanjay would most probably be released Wednesday.

Sanjay's release from Yeravada jail only tomorrow

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is expected to be released from Yeravada jail on Tuesday after the Supreme Court order granting him bail reaches the prison authorities here. The copy of the apex court order will be routed through the TADA court in Mumbai before it can be handed over to the jail authorities here, Satish Mathur, IG Prisons, Maharashtra said. Under these circumstances, the actor, who has served about three weeks of his six year rigorous imprisonment sentence slapped by the TADA court in the Mumbai blasts case, is likely to walk out of jail only tomorrow. Dutt was brought here on the night of August 2 from Mumbai's Arthur Road jail which houses only under trial prisoners. He is said to be doing "cane work" assigned to him a week back after he underwent a routine medical check-up.
